Nyhavn (New Port)
Nyhavn is a canal that goes in to the city centre.There are bars and restaurants on the ground floor of most of the old houses . The atmosphere of Nyhavn is something very special both in summer when people can sit outdoors and enjoy their glass of beer and in winter when there is Christmas market.The canal tours that take you around the city and into the harbor also start here.

Strøget
Strøget is the central walking street in København. The main activity of those who walk along it is shopping for the street is lined by shops of all kinds.Here one can buy goods both of famous designers marks and souvenirs or some selected items made of amber.

Nyboder
Nyboder is one of the most special districts in København. It is probably the first social housing scheme in Europe.It was built from 1631 to 1648 by king Christian IV to provide decent houses for navy employees.The streets were given unusual names some of which survived to nowadays.

Christianshavn
Christianshavn (meaning Christians port) is something absolutely unique.It was built on the various islets between the two islands to reinforce the defensive system and the trade of København. It reminds Holland not without reason, it was after king Christian IV visited Holland that he decided to build it.

Christiania
It all started in 1971 that a group of hippies occupied the abandoned navy barracks and declared it "the liberated city".Soon they were filled up with hundreds of young people.Nowdays it is still a very much "alternative" district of the city with its rules and traditions.

Kastellet
Kastellet (the Citadel) is a military bastion built by Christian IV to defend København from sea attacks. Though the original bastions were demolished and now the territory is converted into a park, the old buildings are still preserved and used by the military. The whole area is open to the public.
